Professional Reflection and Skills
After working with Residential Life and Upward Bound for more than 4 years, I have gained many skills for working with people. I am able to connect with others, help plan events, and even facilitate healthy communities for residents and staff in many settings.
In a workplace, I look for the ability to grow and give others a connection that they could be missing from home or work. In a school environment, it is important that there is a loving nature presented to the students and faculty. Empathy is the basis of everything that I find myself valuing and I want to spread that value to everyone that I come in contact with.
Students deserve to have people in their lives that foster a love of developing their sense of empathy and learning. I was lucky enough to have a few teachers like that during high school at Grand Rapids Senior High. I will be so happy if I am able to do the same for my own students.
